Knomad Chalkart Studio began in 2004 and ran off the back of Knomad Signs & Graphics which was founded by Peter Rhodes in Sydney Australia in 1993. Peter adds, “Back when we started it was really a matter of knocking on doors around the Pubs, takeaways and restaurants and doing up chalkart illustrations on there menuboards, walls or what ever they would let us loose on.” Peter worked with the pioneer of chalkart from the early 1990’s, Monique Cannon. Monique has been doing chalkart for over 20 years on the Gold Coast Queensland Australia. Peter adds “ Monique’s style and creativity has been at the for front of Chalkart and she now has a school teaching Chalkart to students from around the world at her Gold Coast studio. (for more info visit www.moniqueschalkart.com ) plus she contributes her artwork here on this website for you to purchase.”   From doing years of Chalkart illustrations Peter started photographing all the artwork in high resolution format and taking out the backgrounds so the images could be layered and combined using design programs such as Photoshop, Corel and Signlab. Once in a digital format they could print out the artwork on adhesive vinyls. From there they started doing chalkart on banners, windows, vehicles, lightboxes, table menu and promotional posters. Peter adds, “ I remember one of the first images we printed, which was out of an Epson 9600 Stylus Pro, and we couldn’t believe how well it looked and the quality was amazing. We showed it to a few of our clients and they couldn’t tell whether it was chalk or a print. He was rubbing it and scratching it. It was great to see his reaction when we told him it was a print. So from that point on we started constructing our library with the main purpose to use in our Sign business”.   "Knomad Chalkart Studio evolved from the chalkart library we had been building and eventually we had made up enough artwork to create a double CD pack with over 200 high resolution chalkart designs, with transparent backgrounds which we called  The Professional Edition which is now available in the store.The user can layer and combine different images to create there own designs. The beauty of using our artwork is that it all marries together so you can grab a sandwich, calamari and a burger and combine the artwork together to create a design to suit the clients needs. Its easy to use and the results are timeless that have that soft, touchy feel”   The website was launched in 2007 and now has over 450 chalkart designs and illustrations available for individual purchase in our online store, where you can download straight to your desktop plus there are now a wide range of assorted Theme Packs and Bundles available to purchase on Cd. Peter adds “ we are constantly adding to the library, with new artwork, images of finished signs for the gallery and adding specials for all our members. We aim to make the artwork a working tool for any business that is in need of creative hand drawn designs and we are always looking for feedback from our members for more ideas or needs in which they could use it in there business”.
